Sperry Tent

The Sperry Tent was born in 1975, when Steve Sperry began making beautiful custom sails for yachts, becoming well known and loved in the sailing community and throughout America. But a chance request changed the Sperry family business & the ‘world of tents’ forever.

In August 1978, the weather took a turn for the worst and a friend phoned Steve and asked whether he could create a ‘party tent’ to protect his guests from the elements, as they partied the night away. Using his skills, materials and poles milled from the woods behind his house – the first Sperry tent was born.

In 1996 Steve’s sons, Tim and Matt Sperry, returned from their adventures circumnavigating the globe on a 41-foot yacht with three other friends. Tim joined his father’s company and took the helm at Sperry Tents, while Matt stayed on the Sperry Sails side, working on sails, tents and enhancing the family’s signature fabric designs.

Sperry Tents are now available in 17 countries across the Globe, including the UK. They’ve graced manicured lawns, beaches, rolling hills, picturesque valleys, deserts and wide-open vistas – the canvas for so many beautiful events.

What makes Sperry Tents so utterly perfect is their heritage and craftmanship, a purity of form & function born through a passion for sailing, a passion for tents, and of course a passion for partying.

WHY SO SPECIAL?

  • Our canvas canopies are not modular and are crafted from one piece of sailcloth sewn together with intricate seams. Therefore, the seams are unintrusive and delicate to the eye, creating beautiful geometric patterns as you look up.

  • The Oyster coloured canvas is beautifully reflective and adds a flattering warmth to photography. We call it ‘the Sperry Glow.’

  • We mill the Spruce Pine wooden poles by hand, from our mill in Massachusetts. Using natural products only enhances the atmosphere within the Sperry tents.

  • Above each of the poles along the sides of the tent, we have our iconic star shape – known to be the Sperry mark of quality and love.

  • The side walls can be either opaque or clear, dependant on the views you’d love to see. The sides can be easily rolled up & down, weather dependant and built for all Seasons.

  • Our Sperry Tents are crafted in Coastal Massachusetts and they’re built for all eventualities, the British weather is no match for a Sperry sailcloth!

  • We love the Sperry Tents tall and elegant peaks with flags, standing at 30ft to give the sense of grandeur from the outside and space in the inside.

  • Out Sperry Tents use minimal straps, both inside and out. The clean lines of the structure are incredibly graceful.

"finish of this tent exceeded all expectations. Nothing is ever too much for the team"
Given the technicality and size of the build; we would only ever have used Joseph Benjamin. A winter wedding in a marquee has to be exceptional and the finish of this tent exceeded all expectations. Nothing is ever too much for the team and speaking to the co-owners directly ensured attention to every detail. What impressed my client the most was seeing the completed design on CAD and 3d view prior to the installation. This service in particular enabled us to ensure they were entirely satisfied before the build had even begun. Thank you Ben, Jo and team for your impeccable hard work.
